Williams, Barton, "VicUrban Aurora: Driving Best Practice in Materials Specification", AASMIC Conference, Melbourne, 18 November 2004
Barton Williams is the urban designer in the Environment & Design Division of VicUrban. In a pioneering move VicUrban has implemented compulsory materials selection guidelines: the ‘Eco-Selector’, for all houses at the 10,000 lot Aurora subdivision. As part of a systematic sustainability initiative all projects must attain a minimum score through the selection of materials from the scorecard. How are builders and designers responding to this challenge? What lessons have been learned? Barton Williams reviews this exciting development and its implications.
